Hayden had a well baby visit today with a pediatrician and a follow-up visit with the pediatric surgeon about his hiney.
weight - 15 lbs. 8 oz. - a hair shy of 25th percentile
height - 26.5 in. - a hair above the 50th percentile
Good news - I told the surgeon we haven't been seeing any oozing from Hayden's fistula, and it just seems like a little dimple. So, she thinks Hayden's fistula is healing on its own without intervention, which means most likely no surgery. Yay!!

Standing up is exciting
Hayden is getting stronger and stronger. He loves to stand up and gets really excited when I let him. Sometimes when he needs to burp during a feeding it is very difficult because he will just straighten himself out and try to stand up instead of letting me sit him on my knee to burp him. If he fights me too much I end up standing up and putting him on my shoulder. He's too long now for me to do that on the couch if he's got his legs straight out. He usually ends up spitting up all down my back and down the seat cushion anyway if I do it that way. Better to clean it off the the hard floor than the couch. The spitting up seams to be getting less and less.
He can sit up on his own for a couple of seconds without falling over now. He's getting better at it everyday. He doesn't have much to sit on. He's a little top heavy. He is finally able to sit in his Bumbo, but we haven't used it much. He usually falls asleep in the car on the way to a destination like going out to eat, so he spends a lot of time in his car seat when we're out.
I have started feeding him vegetables. I have been giving him squash this week. He is still learning to open his mouth up for it and swallow it. He only eats a couple tablespoons of solids a day right now. The spitting up is getting better and better. I have been giving him Zantac for his reflux. I didn't really think he was uncomfortable before we started the Zantac, but now that he is taking it regularly, I notice a big difference when he misses a dose. He gets very fussy like he's very uncomfortable. I'm greatful the spitting up is getting better, but now that he's starting solids, it is more colorful. I wanted to feed him Okinawa sweet potatoes (the bright purple ones) but after the first time, I decided purple spit up probably wouldn't come out of the burp cloths and onesies as easily as other things. I'm going to hold off on those for a while.
Hayden has had an insatiable appetite the last few days. Last night he woke me at 1:00 am to eat after eating more than ever during the day. I think he's trying to thicken up for his six month doctor's check up on Thursday. I weighed him at home today with a diaper and onesie on and a full tummy and he weighed 15.6 pounds. He's right on the 25% curve. I think he grows a lot more in length than weight.
Hayden is loving his exersaucer to stand up in, but I have to give it some time after he eats before putting him in it or he spits up too much. He usually goes straight into the bouncy chair when he gets done eating since it's at a 45 degree angle. Right now he's in his exersaucer cooing (squealing) away at Paco. He gets very excited to watch Paco, even when Paco's just laying in the floor. He is all smiles and happy squeals lately, especially when his Daddy's home.

First Tooth
Hayden's first tooth has cut through the gum. It's his bottom left one. He has been a little fussier than normal (for him) since his tooth has been cutting through, but still more mellow than most. He took all of his naps today.
Su had me and some other church friends over for lunch today. She and her mom cooked us some wonderful Korean food. I left her house around 3 and Hayden fell asleep on the way home. I left him sleeping in his car seat and he slept til 4:45!
After we got home from church tonight, I fed him his last feeding for the day. When he finished eating he was crying like he had to burp so I put him on my sholder and kept trying to burp him. He suddenly zonked out. I put him in his footy pj's and put layed him in his crib. A few minutes later he rolled over to his stomach and was fast asleep again.

A NEW PHASE PERHAPS
The 12 hour night seems to have been a one time thing for now. I think they will stick once he stops spitting up and he retains all that he ate in a day. Yesterday, in addition to spitting up several times, I drank mostly caffienated drinks and no water. The caffiene did not seem to disturb his sleeping, but I definitely stopped making enough milk in between feedings. It finally dawned on me just before I went to bed that I had not had any water all day and I made myself drink a big glass before bed. I noticed a difference almost immediately. Most days I drink water constantly, so no lectures please. :)
Last night Hayden rolled over and fell asleep on his stomach for the first time. Before now, he has always seemed uncomfortable on his stomach and often times spits up quite a bit when he is. He slept through the night on his stomach, and so far today, he has chosen his stomach for all of his naps. He looks very peaceful.

Teething Times
Hayden slept for 12 hours last night! Usually, he sleeps only 9 hours. This is the first time I haven't fed him a 10 o'clock feeding and he made it through the night. I fed him at 5pm, put him in bed at 7pm, and he slept til 7am. I decided to experiment with this because his evening behavior has been changing this week, and a couple of nights he has woken up crying. He seems to be having nightmares. I'll hear a small cry during some of his naps and sometimes during the night and then he goes back to sleep. He's trying to get his bottom teeth to cut through, so this may be what has woken him up. I'm going to try the 12 hour night again tonight and see how it goes. It may have been a one time thing.
I am getting more consistent with giving Hayden Rinitidine for his reflux. It seems to be helping some. He still spits up, but he seems more comfortable in general and the last couple of days the spit up has not been a constant flow like it often is. He also seems more comfortable being on his stomach lately. Each time I put him on his back, he rolls to his stomach. He seems to have forgotten that he knows how to roll back over. He starts to complain after laying on his stomach for a minute.
He has started rolling to his side to sleep for most of his naps. We have started sweating at night now that we're starting to get more summery weather, so he might keep cooler on his side.
