Facing the Reality of Military Life

Mike is now expecting to have PCS (Permanent Change of Station) orders within the next few weeks for Ft. Gordon, Georgia. Please excuse me if I'm not jumping up and down with excitement. Sure, being closer to family is nice, but I feel like we just got settled here. My favorite thing about Hawai'i is the Pearl Harbor Church of Christ. Most of us are military families, so inevitably, whether we move or our friends move, we will be separated eventually. I will miss the regular influx/outflux of new friends here. I'm sure the dynamic will be similar in any military community, but where else will we ever be where all 5 branches of the military come together in one place? Those of you who haven't lived here for a couple of years will never understand what I'm talking about.

Mike's new job has something to do with satellite communications. Ask him if you want to know more. I don't know. I just found out about this yesterday and haven't had time to do much research yet. Mike learned today that in addition to attending school at Ft. Gordon for 6 months, he will also be stationed there after the school ends. Therefore, we'll be living there 2 or more years.

I don't know anything yet about life in Augusta, Georgia. If anyone knows anyone there or near there who can give me any pointers as far as housing, etc. I'd appreciate them. It looks like we're going to be leaving Hawai'i around the end of October. Anyone want to take a road trip to come visit us in Georgia to celebrate Hayden's first birthday on November 28? It's a Saturday!

I have decided to be happy about being where ever God calls us to be, but letting go of a good situation and good friends is always hard. Also difficult is the reality that someone besides me will be packing my stuff this time. The control freak in me might have to be restrained while the movers are here. This will be the first time I've ever moved when I wasn't the one who packed my stuff. When we were moved from Texas to Hawai'i, the movers mostly just loaded up the boxes that I had packed that were in storage. They packed a very few things.

More on this topic later.
